THE ORIGINAL PANCAKE HOUSE was founded in 1953 by Les Highet and Erma Hueneke in Portland, Oregon. Drawing upon their many years of experience in the culinary field and their comprehensive working knowledge of authentic national and ethnic pancake recipes, they were able to offer without compromise this unique and original menu which has gained national acclaim and remains unchanged to this day. These recipes made from scratch daily demand only the very finest of ingredients such as pure whipping cream, fresh Grade AA eggs, hardwheat unbleached flour, and our sourdough yeast. The sourdough yeast produces our famous light, airy, fine-textured pancakes.

The Original Pancake House Toledo - Our Story Jim and Rebecca Cowan have called the Original Pancake House on the corner of Central and Secor home for over 30 years. As Jim and Becky like to say, "We don't have customers, we have a large family." For years the Cowan's work hard to make The Original Pancake House a Toledo tradition. Then in 2010, they home away from home went up in smoke. An electrical fire that started in the back of the kitchen afterhours quickly spread throughout the building, what wasn't consumed by fire was devastated by heat and smoke. They toiled endlessly and had to overcome many challenges to be able to reopen their doors in 2011. "It was a lot of hard work, tears and worries" admits Jim "but every bit of it was worth the effort". Becky herself took the time to hand pick every light, every fixture and planned out every inch of the remodel. "This is like home to us" Beck says "we wanted it to be open, bright and inviting, we wanted everyone to feel like it was their home."

As a testament to what they went through and just how much their customers (family) means to them, you will find this note on every table.

Rebecca & I would like to take a moment and say thank you for your continued support. We realize that this is a very trying time for all of us. We also know that you choices for restaurants are enormous. But we like to think of our customers as family, not just people who come and go. We are always striving to do our best and serve the best food possible, and at an affordable price with great service. Please let us know if we fall short in any way. We will do everything we can to make it right. We truly feel blessed for the last ten months, without all of our loyal customer's we would not be here. We realize this and we never take your patronage for granted. Last but not least we want to thank all of our Service personnel for your sacrifice. If not for them we could not enjoy our everyday freedom.

Thank you and May God bless us all Jim & Rebecca
